The Museum of Mortality is fundamentally designed as a post-modern commentary on the current monetized state of dark tourism and thanatourism operating worldwide, as well as digitally documenting the artworks of artists and collectives who actively deal with the themes of the post-mortem body, mortality, bodily waste, and victims of violence. Exploring the nature of disgust within creative aesthetics, and examining the ethical critiques that come with representing such visceral subject matter it is important to note whether or not the audience has active control in determining what constitutes as art or exploitation. Museum of Mortality aims to operate under the idea of digitally decolonizing institutions by allowing for anyone to disseminate the information relayed in the virtual space online, collectively pushing forth the call to accessibility of institutionalized spaces by the means of digital embodiment.
